I’ve Been Sewing

Have I ever mentioned that I dabble in sewing?  No, I don’t make my own clothes (I’m not THAT skilled), but I do love making bags.

Today, I am please to share with you some photos of my finished projects (and links to where you can find some online tutorials that I’ve used).

1) Knitting Bags: I’ve made one for Melanie and one for myself.  I based the bags on the Large Patchwork Bag pattern from www.allpeoplequilt.com.

2) Project Bags: This pattern came courtesy of Martha.  Visit Ms. Stewart’s website to find the pattern for her Reversible Purse.  These, by the way, make perfect project bags!

Everything was my own design, but I was very grateful for the assistance of the following U-Handbag tutorials:

-Inserting a concealed top-edge zipper

-Creating a zippered inner bag pocket

Baked Oatmeal

This is one of my favorite grab-and-go breakfast choices.  It is both healthy and versatile! This is oatmeal that you can cut into squares and eat with your hands.  I like to store individual portions in plastic baggies in the fridge or freezer so I can grab a bite to eat as I run out the door!



 

Deborah’s Baked Oatmeal

Ingredients
2 cups uncooked oatmeal
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 cup skim milk
1 egg
1 egg white
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
6 packs Splenda
2 mashed bananas
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt

Instructions
Preheat oven to 175 C (350 F).  Combine dry ingredients.  Mix in wet ingredients. Pour into a sprayed 8″x8″ pan.

Bake for 40 minutes.  Remove from oven, allow to cool.  Eat.  Enjoy.

Stores best in the refrigerator or freezer.

Variations
Go ahead, alter this recipe to suit your personal tastes.  Try adding…

  • Chopped nuts (almonds or walnuts would be delicious)
  • Pureed pumpkin, papaya or mango
  • Berries, apples, rhubarb
  • Raisins, dried cranberries, other dried fruit
  • Orange or lemon juice
  • Protein powder
  • PB2
  • Chocolate chips
  • Brown sugar
